FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONSE

UTV FIRE SKIDS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENTS

Put mobile fire suppression closer to brush fires, trails, rural roads and hard-to-reach incidents with UTV and truck-based BLZ fire skid systems.

THE RESPONSE GAP

WHEN THE ENGINE CAN'T GET THERE FIRST.

Fire departments do not get to choose where the call happens. Brush fires, rural property, trails, fields and narrow access points can put full-size apparatus at a disadvantage.

A mobile fire skid gives a department another response option: onboard water, hose and suppression capability on a UTV, chief truck, pickup or brush-truck platform that can move closer to the incident.

MATCH THE PLATFORM TO THE CALL

WHAT ARE YOU RESPONDING WITH?

Start with the vehicle your department already uses, then match the skid to payload, water capacity and response role.

TRAILS • FIELDS • RURAL ACCESS

GO WHERE THE ENGINE CAN'T.

Use a UTV fire skid for mobile response when narrow trails, rough terrain or restricted access make a full-size apparatus difficult to position. BLZ electric UTV systems put onboard water and hose capability on a compact response platform.

FIRST-OUT SUPPORT

ADD SUPPRESSION TO THE VEHICLE ALREADY MOVING.

A compact truck skid can add onboard suppression capability to a pickup or chief vehicle for rapid response, patrol, support and incidents where the first-arriving vehicle needs water before heavier apparatus is positioned.

WILDLAND • BRUSH RESPONSE

STEP UP WATER AND PRESSURE.

For departments outfitting a brush truck or larger pickup platform, the Defender family provides truck-based suppression capability with integrated hose and foam systems. The Defender 200 adds ultra-high-pressure performance for serious brush and wildland response.

FIELD REPORT 001

FIRST ON SCENE WITH A RANGER 60.

Chief Robert Hutto arrived ahead of the engine and put a BLZ Ranger 60 to work on a vehicle fire. The incident shows exactly why mobile suppression capability matters when the first unit on scene is not a full-size engine.

EVEN FROM A DISTANCE I STILL HAD IT ALMOST COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED WHEN THEY ARRIVED.

WHAT SHOULD A FIRE DEPARTMENT LOOK FOR?

For departments evaluating a UTV fire skid or truck fire skid, the right system starts with the response vehicle. Verify vehicle payload, bed dimensions, crew, tools, water weight and mounting before purchase.

Then match capacity to the mission. Smaller UTV systems prioritize maneuverability and lighter loaded weight. Larger UTV platforms increase onboard water. Truck-based Defender systems move into higher-capacity response and, on the Defender 200, ultra-high-pressure performance.

The goal is not to replace the engine. It is to put useful suppression capability closer to incidents where access, speed and mobility matter.

FIRE CHIEF QUESTIONS

FIRE DEPARTMENT FIRE SKID FAQ

What is a UTV fire skid? +

A UTV fire skid is a compact water, pump and hose system designed to mount in the cargo bed of a utility terrain vehicle. It gives departments mobile fire suppression capability for brush, wildland, rural and hard-to-access response.

How much water should a fire department carry on a UTV? +

That depends on the UTV payload, crew, tools, terrain and mission. BLZ offers 45-, 60- and 80-gallon UTV systems so departments can match water capacity to the vehicle instead of choosing tank size alone.

Can a fire skid go in a chief truck or pickup? +

Yes. Truck-based fire skids can add onboard suppression capability to pickups, flatbeds and utility-body platforms. The Defender 100 is the compact BLZ truck option, while the Defender 200 is the larger brush-truck platform.

Are BLZ UTV fire skids electric? +

The Scout 45, Ranger 60 and Guardian 80 use BLZ's 24V electric architecture. The Defender truck systems are a separate product family and should not be confused with the electric UTV line.

Can a UTV fire skid replace a fire engine? +

No. A UTV fire skid is a mobile response tool that can extend a department's ability to reach terrain and incidents where larger apparatus may be difficult to position. Departments should deploy equipment according to their own procedures, training and applicable requirements.
